We’ve had a new family on a very low income join us. This family struggle financially; they are beneficiaries. The mother comes from an alcoholic-parented family and suffers from depression. As a result of her situation, she has never attended groups or mainly music type activities with her children.
Although this mother is doing a fantastic job parenting her very well behaved children, it has been interesting watching her fearfulness of participating together with her child. She prefers to hang around the edges and is very happy to hold someone else’s baby rather than participate. Her child actively participates by himself.
It has been awesome to see this mother and her child continue to attend mainly music despite the somewhat uncomfortable experience it seems to be for her. As she watches her child having a fantastic time she realises and appreciates her child’s enjoyment of mainly music.
It is cool to watch a mother who probably never got to play or have fun with her own mother learn that it is good for mothers and children to play and have fun together.
